Isiolo County Woman Representative, Mumina Gollo Bonaya, has spearheaded a large-scale food distribution initiative to support vulnerable families in Lower Cherab Ward during the holy month of Ramadan.

Over a two-day period, 1,500 households received essential food supplies, ensuring they could observe Iftar with dignity and ease.

A Timely Intervention for Vulnerable Families

The relief food distribution exercise, led by Mumina Bonaya, sought to alleviate food insecurity in one of Isiolo County’s most underserved regions.

With the economic strain affecting many households, the initiative provided critical support during Ramadan, a time of fasting, reflection, and community solidarity.

Bonaya emphasized the importance of such interventions, stating, “Food security remains a major challenge in many parts of our county, and I am committed to ensuring that no family goes hungry, especially during Ramadan.”

Extensive Coverage Across Lower Cherab Ward

The food aid distribution covered multiple villages, ensuring that even remote communities benefited.

In Basaa, 350 households received assistance, while Mata Arba had 100 beneficiaries. In Saleti, 96 households were supported, alongside 25 in Rig, 133 in Korbesa, and 96 in Biliqi.

Additional distributions reached 50 households in Qarqabo, 30 in Lafe, 120 in Malkagala, 37 in Dakiye, 118 in Taqwa, 113 in Town, and 32 in Alango.

Beneficiaries were carefully selected based on vulnerability, prioritizing low-income families, widows, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

The initiative ensured that those most in need received assistance at a crucial time.

Community Gratitude and the Impact of the Initiative

Residents expressed deep appreciation for the timely intervention, noting that the food assistance would allow them to observe Ramadan without the stress of food insecurity.

A recipient from Basaa shared, “This support has come at the right time. It will help us break our fast without worrying about where our next meal will come from. We are grateful to Hon. Mumina for her generosity and commitment to our community.”

For many families in Lower Cherab Ward, the relief provided a significant reprieve from the economic hardships they face.

The food aid not only addressed immediate hunger but also reinforced the spirit of compassion and communal support during Ramadan.
