•Isiolo Unity Show Sparks Controversy Over Local Artists Representation

Isiolo, Kenya| A controversy has emerged over the annual Isiolo Unity Show, with local vernacular artist Nasra Beiby publicly voicing her concerns about the exclusion of indigenous Isiolo musicians from the event.

The singer, who performs in her native Oromo-Borana language, has distanced herself and other Isiolo artists from the show, citing a lack of involvement in its planning and execution.

In a video posted on her TikTok account, Nasra Beiby alleged that the event, which has been held annually for the past two years, has consistently sidelined Isiolo artists.

According to her, the show’s management has never engaged local talent, leading to frustration among artists who feel left out of an event meant to promote unity and culture.

Claims of Favoritism in Artist Selection

Nasra Beiby specifically pointed out that the Isiolo Unity Show is being organized by Wario Liban, a gospel artist originally from Marsabit County but currently based in Isiolo.

She claimed that Liban predominantly invites performers from Marsabit while overlooking talented musicians from Isiolo.

“Local artists have never been involved in this event since its inception,” she lamented.

She further thanked leaders who reached out to her to inquire about the situation, indicating that the issue has drawn attention beyond the artistic community.

The singer suggested that Isiolo artists should consider forming their own initiatives to engage with their local fans and create opportunities that ensure their participation in cultural and entertainment events.

Organizer Denies Exclusion Allegations

In response to the claims, Wario Liban has denied deliberately sidelining local artists. Speaking to the media, he stated that planning for the event was still underway and that no final decisions had been made regarding the lineup of performers.

“The event is still in its planning stages, and we have not yet finalized who will perform,” Liban said, urging local artists to be patient.
