Kilifi, Kenya| President Dr. William Ruto has officially laid the foundation stone for the Tezo Affordable Housing Project in Kilifi County, marking a significant step in the government’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable housing for Kenyans.

Located along the Kilifi-Malindi Road, the project will consist of 1,000 housing units, making it one of the most ambitious housing initiatives in Kenya’s coastal region.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, President Ruto emphasized that the development aligns with his administration’s broader housing agenda and economic empowerment efforts.

Boosting Employment and Local Economy

Beyond providing affordable homes, the project is expected to create thousands of jobs, benefiting skilled and semi-skilled workers.

The construction phase alone will employ at least 200 workers per day, with an estimated total of 1,000 job opportunities across various sectors, including electrical work, plumbing, masonry, and architecture.

“Raw materials for the project will be sourced locally. Our Jua Kali artisans and young people from TVET colleges will play a central role in the construction,” President Ruto assured.

The government is working closely with the National Construction Authority (NCA) and the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) to ensure that local skilled workers directly benefit from the initiative.

Project Progress and Government Commitment

Construction is already underway, with key activities such as foundation work, material procurement, and infrastructure development progressing as planned.

President Ruto reassured Kilifi residents of the government’s commitment to delivering the project on schedule.

“We are on track, and I will be back on April 3, 2026, to officially open the completed housing units,” he announced.

Expanding Affordable Housing Across Kilifi

Beyond the Tezo project, the government has unveiled plans to construct an additional 5,000 affordable housing units across Kilifi County.

The new developments will be located in Bofa, Watamu, and Mtwapa, further boosting employment opportunities and increasing access to decent housing in the region.

The affordable housing initiative is part of President Ruto’s broader economic strategy to bridge the housing gap, stimulate local economies, and uplift livelihoods through infrastructure development.

Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism about its impact on employment, business opportunities, and improved living conditions.
