Blue Origin, the private aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos, has announced its next mission will feature a groundbreaking all-female crew.
The diverse team, composed of prominent figures from journalism, entertainment, science, and philanthropy, is set to embark on a suborbital spaceflight this spring.
Among the six crew members are award-winning journalist Gayle King, pop superstar Katy Perry, and philanthropist Lauren Sánchez, who is also the fiancée of Bezos.
They will be joined by former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
The mission will mark the first time an all-women crew has flown together on a Blue Origin spacecraft.
In a press release issued on Thursday, February 27, Blue Origin credited Sánchez with playing a key role in assembling the mission.
“She is honored to lead a team of explorers on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth, empower them to share their own stories, and create a lasting impact that will inspire generations to come,” the company stated.
