Abdimalik Abdi: Teen Wins Garissa County Quran Competition, Awarded New Car

Garissa, Kenya| In a remarkable display of Quranic mastery, 16-year-old Abdimalik Siyad Abdi from Al-Rahma Madrassa in Bula Iftin has emerged as the overall winner of the 15th Annual Garissa County Quran Competition.

The prestigious event, which attracted 222 participants from all sub-counties, was held during the holy month of Ramadhan and culminated in a grand award ceremony presided over by Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.

As the top competitor, Abdimalik was awarded a brand-new Toyota Succeed, a prize that not only recognizes his exceptional Quranic knowledge but also underscores the significance of religious scholarship in the region.

A Tradition of Quranic Excellence

Organized by the Garissa County Quran Association, the annual competition has been a revered tradition since 2010, fostering Quranic knowledge, unity, and community values among the youth.

Over the years, the event has gained prominence as a platform to encourage young people to deepen their understanding of the Quran while preserving the religious and cultural heritage of the region.

During the ceremony, CS Aden Duale praised the participants for their dedication and underscored the competition’s role in nurturing future Islamic scholars.

The award ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries and community leaders, including Garissa County Commissioner Mohammed Ramadhan, Area MP Maj. (Rtd) Dekow Barrow, Garissa Woman Representative Amina Udgoon, Wajir South MP Mohammed Adow, and Nominated MP Abdisirat Khalif, alongside prominent Islamic scholars.

Their presence highlighted the significance of the competition in the socio-religious landscape of the county, reaffirming the commitment of local leaders to support and promote Quranic education among the youth.
