Homa Bay County has intensified efforts to combat drug and substance abuse through a collaborative approach spearheaded by the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

The initiative, which brings together various organizations, aims to address the growing challenges posed by drug abuse in the region.

Speaking on the partnership, NACADA’s Homa Bay County Coordinator, Samson Wambisa, emphasized that tackling drug abuse requires a multi-stakeholder approach.

He noted that one of the biggest hurdles in the fight against substance abuse is the reluctance of some community members to actively participate in eradication efforts.

“Despite ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse, we have observed that some individuals remain indifferent or unwilling to engage in the campaign. This lack of support from certain sections of the community hinders progress,” Wambisa stated.

However, he reassured the public that NACADA and its partners remain committed to overcoming these challenges.

By strengthening partnerships with local organizations, government agencies, and community groups, the Authority aims to enhance awareness, enforcement, and rehabilitation measures.

“NACADA has realized that it cannot work alone and expect success in the fight against drug abuse. Through concerted efforts, we can significantly reduce substance abuse and its detrimental effects on individuals and society,” Wambisa added.

The impact of drug abuse extends beyond the individual user, affecting families, workplaces, and entire communities. Recognizing this, NACADA is calling for broader collaboration, urging stakeholders, including religious institutions, local leaders, and civil society, to actively participate in sensitization and intervention programs.

As Homa Bay County intensifies its anti-drug campaign, there is optimism that sustained community engagement and institutional cooperation will yield tangible results in curbing the menace.

NACADA remains steadfast in its mission to create a drug-free society, reinforcing its commitment through education, advocacy, and rehabilitation initiatives.
