Today, a delegation from the Department of Health, led by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services Lucy Kaburu, Chief Officer for Public Health Bisharo Hassan, and Zeinab Adan, a surveyor from the Department of Lands, held a significant meeting with Gambela residents and local institutions, including Gambela Primary School.

The objective of the meeting was to identify a suitable site for the construction of a new dispensary, a critical step in improving access to healthcare in the area.

Following fruitful deliberations, the community agreed to allocate three acres of public land owned by Gambela Primary School for the project.

Expressing his gratitude, Ibrahim Rashid, a community member, said, “We welcome this project because it will bring healthcare services closer and ease the burden of traveling to ICTRH for treatment. We thank the County Government for this initiative.”

The dispensary is part of a broader collaboration between the Isiolo County Government and the World Bank under the North Eastern Development Initiative (NEDI).

This partnership aims to support 21 transformative projects across Isiolo County, with a total investment of Ksh. 700 million.

Key projects include the 192-kilometer Modogashe-Mandera Road, Isiolo Cancer Center, a rehabilitation center, polytechnics, classrooms, and several dispensaries, among others.

Gambela was identified as a priority location for the dispensary through an inclusive community engagement process.

During the meeting, CECM Lucy Kaburu emphasized the County Government’s commitment to partnering with development organizations and local communities to improve healthcare infrastructure.

“Better healthcare is a top priority of H.E. Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan’s administration. We will continue working with stakeholders to ensure that healthcare services are accessible and reliable for all,” she stated.

Chief Officer for Public Health Bisharo Hassan echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude to Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan, development partners, and the Gambela community for their unwavering support in advancing health infrastructure projects.

She noted that the dispensary is a vital step toward improving healthcare accessibility in the region.

The construction of the dispensary is expected to significantly impact Gambela residents by reducing the long distances traveled to access healthcare services and promoting overall well-being.

The project underscores the County Government’s dedication to addressing healthcare challenges and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

This milestone reflects the importance of collaboration between governments, development partners, and local communities in driving sustainable development and improving essential services.
