The body of Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, the missing Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Della Anole Ward in Wajir County, was discovered in the Lake Yahud area over a month after his disappearance.
His family has positively identified the mutilated remains at a local mortuary.
Witnesses reported that the body showed signs of severe torture, including extensive burns and brutal beatings.
Disturbingly, the victim’s eyes had been removed. Local residents flocked to the morgue to mourn the tragic loss.
Ahmed was abducted on September 13, and his whereabouts had remained unknown until this grim discovery.
As of now, police have not provided any updates regarding the ongoing investigation.
The High Court had previously instructed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to ensure the safety of a key witness in the case related to Ahmed’s abduction, pending a formal application for witness protection.
Justice Alexander Muteti also requested an updated report on the investigation status by October 7.
During court proceedings, senior superintendent of police Justus Imaana revealed that investigators have yet to obtain crucial CCTV footage from the area where the MCA was last seen.
He indicated that he had only secured two pieces of footage and had requested additional footage from various sources along the suspected route of the abduction.
However, his requests to the Internet Crime Complaint Centre (IC3) were reportedly denied.
“After the abduction, I cannot be able to speculate which roads the two Prados took,” Imaana commented.
He emphasized the complexity of the investigations, stating, “I cannot speculate investigations timelines reason being that investigations is a continuous process… I haven’t reached that level to unravel.”
Additionally, the court heard that Imaana had not yet received call data from mobile networks, which could help identify whom the MCA contacted before his abduction.
Ahmed’s legal representatives, including Danstan Omari and Law Society of Kenya (LSK) lawyer Hosea Manwa, challenged the officer’s statements and called for immediate action.
