Cynthia Shilawatso: Kenya’s Attacking Midfielder Signs for Turkish Women’s Side, Besiktas

Cynthia Shilwatso Musungu is a Kenyan attacking midfielder currently in the books of Turkish Women’s Football Super League club Beşiktaş.

Renowned for her skill, creativity, and powerful long-range goals, she has established herself as a key player on both domestic and international stages.

Shilwatso played a pivotal role in Vihiga Queens’ dominance in Kenyan women’s football, helping them secure 3 FKF Women’s Premier League titles.

Her exceptional performances earned her a move to Spain, signing with EDF Logroño.

She later on became one of the few Kenyan female footballers to feature in a top European league.

During the 2020-21 season, she played in Spain’s top-tier women’s league, the Primera División Femenina (now Liga F).

A notable highlight was her appearance against Real Madrid on March 3, 2021, when she was introduced in the 76th minute.

Shilwatso later joined Fountain Gate Princess in Tanzania before signing with FC Kryvbas in Ukraine.

Yesterday, Beşiktaş officially announced her transfer, marking another significant milestone in her career.

On the international stage, Shilwatso has been a vital member of Kenya’s national women’s football team, Harambee Starlets.

Fans fondly recall her crucial goal in last year’s WAFCON qualifier against Cameroon at Nyayo Stadium, where her second-half strike leveled the first-leg score, leading to Kenya’s dramatic 4-3 victory on penalties.

Admired for her vision, passing, and goal-scoring ability, Shilwatso continues to inspire young female footballers across Kenya.
