23rd of October was the day a number of prominent Kenyan personalities breath their first gulp of fresh atmospheric air. Among them is Kimilili member of parliament Didmus Barasa.
Barasa who is now considered to be one of the strongmen in Western Kenya politics allegedly shot a personal assistant of one of his opponents during the polling day is happy to have added a year to his roaster.
Mutula Kilonzo Junior is another prominent Kenyan personality whose birthday falls on this day. He is the current governor of Makueni County having twice as the senator. He was elected to the senate following the demise of his father, the legal doyen Mutula Kilonzo, the senior. However, the governor has since shed off the mighty baggage of fitting into his father’s humongous shoes and is currently one of the major decision makers in Ukambani politics. He has also maintained his father’s influence on national politics as he has been personally one of the most accomplished legislators at the senate where he has rubberstamped his influence on a number of key legislative wins and policy formulation.
The real test has just started for the astute former senator who has been a source of inspiration for his oratory mastery and clear thoughts on critical national policy matters.
With his own budget, it now remains to be seen if he can fit into the shoes of the former governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana which aren’t small by any standards. Others even reckon he can be better? What are your thoughts?
