Kericho, Kenya| The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) officially kicked off its ambitious two-week voter sensitization and civic education programme on Monday at the ACK County Hall grounds in Kericho County, signaling the ruling party’s aggressive preparations for the highly anticipated January 10, 2026, grassroots elections.

The colourful launch, attended by hundreds of enthusiastic party members, was graced by UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar, who addressed party faithful and outlined the party’s roadmap toward conducting what he described as “the most transparent, free, and fair grassroots elections in Kenya’s political history.”

Nationwide Campaign to Empower Members and Strengthen Internal Democracy

The Kericho event marks the beginning of a countrywide voter education campaign that will roll out across at least 20 counties in the coming weeks.

The initiative is designed to demystify the upcoming party polls, mobilize the UDA base, and build public confidence in the party’s electoral processes.

Speaking during the launch, Senator Hassan Omar emphasized that the sensitization forms a cornerstone of UDA’s renewed commitment to internal party democracy.

“This programme is not merely civic education; it is about empowering every UDA member with knowledge and confidence in our electoral systems,” Sen. Omar told the gathering. “We want our members to walk into polling stations on January 10 fully aware of the process is credible, verifiable, and truly reflective of their will.”

Digital Voting System Hailed as Game-Changer for Transparency

A major highlight of the upcoming grassroots elections will be the full implementation of an electronic voting and tallying system – a first for UDA’s internal polls.

Senator Omar explained that the digital platform, which covers both casting of votes and real-time tallying has been engineered to eliminate historical challenges such as ballot stuffing, multiple voting, and disputed results that have plagued previous party elections.

“By moving to a fully digital system, we are closing every possible loophole that has caused mistrust in the past,” he stated.

“Results will be transmitted instantly, tallied electronically, and made available for verification by all stakeholders. This is modern, transparent, and dispute-proof.”

Participants in the two-week training will receive hands-on guidance on how to use the digital voting interface, register their votes securely, and understand the audit trails that guarantee accuracy.

Why Kericho Was Chosen as Launch County

The decision to flag off the nationwide campaign in Kericho was deliberate. The county has consistently demonstrated strong support for UDA and President William Ruto, making it a symbolic and strategic starting point.

“Kericho is the heart of UDA loyalty in the South Rift,” Sen. Omar noted during a brief media address outside the ACK grounds.

“Launching here sends a powerful message that we are starting from our strongest base and expanding across the country with the same energy and commitment.”

Strict Accountability Measures and Zero Tolerance for Irregularities

Party leaders reiterated that the 2026 grassroots elections will be governed by the strictest accountability standards.

Independent auditors, real-time monitoring dashboards, and a dedicated dispute-resolution mechanism will be in place throughout the exercise.

UDA has also promised severe disciplinary action against any member or official found attempting to manipulate the process, further underscoring its determination to restore trust in internal elections.

Looking Ahead: A Strengthened UDA Ready for National Agenda

With the grassroots polls seen as a critical stepping stone toward the 2027 General Election, the ongoing sensitization drive is part of a broader strategy to unify and energize the party’s base nationwide.

By investing heavily in member education and technological transparency, UDA aims to emerge from the January 2026 elections more cohesive, democratic, and ready to advance President Ruto’s national development agenda.

The sensitization caravan now moves to the next counties, with party officials expressing confidence that the initiative will produce one of the smoothest and most credible internal elections ever witnessed in Kenyan political party history.
