The County Assembly of Isiolo has officially confirmed that Abdullahi Jaldesa Banticha remains the lawful Speaker.

This follows a decisive court ruling delivered on May 5, 2026. The judgment ends months of legal battles over the leadership of the assembly.

According to an internal memo from the Clerk to the County Assembly, the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi settled the dispute once and for all.

The court affirmed Banticha’s position and dismissed all claims regarding his removal from office. The ruling brings much needed clarity to the county’s legislative leadership.

The memo references earlier court orders issued on July 15, 2025. Those orders stemmed from a case filed by Banticha against the Attorney General and other respondents.

At that time, the court had blocked any attempts to remove or degazette him from the Speaker’s office. The latest ruling builds on those protections and delivers a final legal determination.

In its decision, the court conclusively stated that Banticha was legally gazetted as Speaker.

It further declared that any alleged revocation of that gazettement was “a phantom that never was.” This strong language underlines the absence of any legitimate process to unseat him.

The ruling effectively erases the uncertainty that has surrounded the assembly’s leadership for several months.

Beyond his role as Speaker, Banticha has also been reaffirmed as the Chairperson of the County Assembly Service Board.

This dual mandate gives him significant authority over both legislative proceedings and administrative functions within the assembly. His position is now fully backed by the law.

Following the ruling, assembly staff and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have received clear instructions. They are to accord Speaker Banticha full cooperation and support in the execution of his duties.

The Clerk, Salad B. Guracha, officially congratulated Banticha on the outcome. He also urged all stakeholders within the assembly to comply with the court’s decision without delay.

This ruling marks a major legal and political milestone for Isiolo County. It restores stability and order in the assembly’s leadership after a period of uncertainty.

Political analysts note that the decision also reinforces the independence of the judiciary in resolving county governance disputes.

For the people of Isiolo, the ruling paves the way for smoother legislative operations and focused development work.

Speaker Banticha has yet to issue a public statement. However, sources close to him indicate he is ready to resume full duties and work with all MCAs regardless of their political leanings.

His priority remains the efficient functioning of the assembly and service to the people of Isiolo.

In summary, the court has spoken with finality. Abdullahi Jaldesa Banticha is the lawful Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly.

His leadership is now legally secure, and the county can move forward without the shadow of a leadership vacuum.
