Nairobi, Kenya| President Cabdiraxmaan Maxamed Cabdillaahi (Cirro) of the Republic of Somaliland has commenced a multi-day official working visit to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, marking a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at deepening bilateral relations and expanding Somaliland’s international presence.

The high-level visit, which underscores Somaliland’s growing regional outreach, is President Cirro’s first major trip to Kenya since assuming office.

He is accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials, including the Minister of the Presidency, the Minister of Planning and National Development, the Minister of Telecommunications and Technology, the Director of the National Intelligence Agency, and the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President.

Notably, the President’s Economic Advisor and the Special Envoy of the Republic of Somaliland had arrived in Nairobi ahead of the main delegation to prepare for key meetings.

According to official sources, President Cirro is expected to engage in a series of high-level discussions with top Kenyan government officials, including President William Ruto.

The talks will cover a range of strategic issues, with particular focus on strengthening diplomatic cooperation, expanding trade and investment opportunities, enhancing regional security, and promoting mutual interests in the Horn of Africa.

The President’s itinerary also includes private consultations with representatives of international organizations, development partners, and ambassadors of various countries whose missions are based in Nairobi.

These engagements are seen as part of Somaliland’s broader diplomatic campaign to gain stronger regional and global recognition and foster meaningful partnerships with key international stakeholders.

A major highlight of the visit will be the official opening of a new, state-of-the-art building that will serve as the Embassy of the Republic of Somaliland in Kenya.

The inauguration of this modern diplomatic facility is a milestone in Somaliland’s foreign policy, signaling its commitment to strengthening its diplomatic footprint in East Africa and beyond.

Although not internationally recognized as an independent state, Somaliland has maintained de facto autonomy since declaring independence from Somalia in 1991.

Its government continues to seek formal recognition while pursuing pragmatic diplomacy with regional and global partners.

The Nairobi visit is widely regarded as a critical step in Somaliland’s efforts to amplify its international voice, attract foreign investment, and bolster its legitimacy on the global stage.

This developing story will be updated with more information as President Cirro’s diplomatic mission progresses.
