UDA Delegation Strengthens Ties with China in High-Level CPC Meeting

Beijing, China| A high-profile delegation from Kenya’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party held a strategic meeting with senior officials of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to explore avenues for deeper bilateral cooperation and party-to-party exchanges.

The discussions, held at the International Department of the CPC, centered on China’s developmental progress, historical relations with Africa, and opportunities for mutual growth.

The UDA delegation, led by Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar Hassan, was received by Mr. Liang Anping, Deputy Director General of the Bureau of Sub-Saharan African Affairs at the CPC’s International Department.

Mr. Liang provided an in-depth briefing on China’s political and economic trajectory, the role of the CPC in national development, and the long-standing diplomatic and economic partnership between China and African nations.

Strengthening Kenya-China Relations Through Party Diplomacy

The meeting underscored the importance of political party engagements in fostering international relations.

Both sides explored potential areas of collaboration, including governance models, economic development strategies, and youth empowerment programs.

Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar Hassan emphasized the UDA’s commitment to learning from China’s rapid industrialization and technological advancements.

“China’s transformative journey offers valuable lessons for Kenya, particularly in infrastructure development, poverty alleviation, and party institutional strengthening,” he remarked.

Key Delegation Members Highlight Collaboration

The UDA delegation comprised prominent party officials, including:

  • Japheth Nyakundi – National Treasurer
  • Rebecca Tonkei – Chairperson, Internal Dispute Resolution Committee
  • Hassan Abdi Ali – UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) Member
  • Mr. Charles Njenga – Chairperson, Disciplinary Committee
  • Rose Gathoni Njoroge – Member of County Assembly (MCA), Gilgil

Other delegation members included Deputy Executive Director Brian Mbugua Higgins, along with Directors Daniel Kiptoo, Joseph Mulili, Grace Gicovi, and Rob Jillo.

Supporting staff from the UDA’s Beijing team, including Patience Kiti (SG’s Office), Connie Kaptuya (SIGs), Gladys Chebet (Protocol), Judy Totoma (Admin), and Samuel Odongo (Logistics), facilitated the engagement.

Focus on Mutual Cooperation and Future Engagements

The discussions highlighted China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and its impact on Africa’s infrastructure development.

The UDA delegation expressed keen interest in how Kenya could further leverage Chinese investments in key sectors such as transport, energy, and digital innovation.

Rebecca Tonkei noted that the exchange provided critical insights into dispute resolution mechanisms within political parties, while Japheth Nyakundi emphasized the importance of financial management strategies drawn from China’s economic policies.

A Step Toward Enhanced Diplomatic and Economic Ties

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to sustained dialogue and knowledge-sharing.

The UDA delegation extended an invitation to CPC officials for reciprocal visits to Kenya, aiming to further solidify the partnership.

This engagement marks a significant step in deepening Kenya-China relations, with political parties serving as key conduits for diplomatic and socio-economic collaboration.
