Meru, Kenya| Isiolo County Secretary Dade Boru, accompanied by several County Executive Members (CECMs) and County Assembly representatives, paid a visit today to Burat Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Hon. Nicholas Lorot, at a hospital in Meru.
Hon. Lorot is currently receiving medical treatment and recovering from injuries sustained in a recent shooting incident.
The attack occurred on the evening of March 26, 2025, near the Northern Galaxy Hotel in Isiolo.
Reports indicate that unidentified gunmen opened fire on Hon. Lorot under unclear circumstances, leaving him wounded.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among local leaders and residents, with calls for immediate action from law enforcement agencies.
During the hospital visit, County Secretary Dade Boru conveyed a message of sympathy and support from Isiolo Governor Ibrahim Guyo.
The governor expressed his deep concern over the attack, condemning the act of violence and extending his best wishes for Hon. Lorot’s swift and full recovery.
“The safety and security of all our leaders and citizens are paramount. We urge security agencies to conduct a thorough and expedited investigation into this unfortunate incident and ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice,” said Boru.
Hon. Lorot’s condition was confirmed to be stable by members of the County Assembly who accompanied the delegation.
Deputy Speaker Hon. David Lemantile (Oldonyiro) and Hon. Peter Losu (Ngaremara) reassured the public that the injured MCA was responding well to treatment and was in high spirits despite the traumatic event.
Among the County Executive Members and officials present at the hospital were CECM Dr. Lawrence Mwongela, Health CECM Lucy Kaburu, Isiolo Governor’s Liaison Officer Gichuci Mutunga, Protocol Officer Gregory Kimathi, and former Chief Officer for Public Participation and Civic Education, Judy Nyaga.
Their presence underscored the county leadership’s solidarity with Hon. Lorot and their commitment to seeking justice on his behalf.
The attack has reignited concerns about rising insecurity in Isiolo County, with local leaders urging the national government to enhance security measures and protect elected representatives and residents.
Law enforcement authorities have yet to make arrests in connection with the shooting, but investigations are ongoing.
Hon. Lorot, a vocal leader in Burat Ward, is known for his advocacy on community issues, including land rights and development projects.
His supporters have called for heightened security around local leaders to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As investigations continue, county officials and residents remain hopeful that the perpetrators will be identified and brought to book, ensuring justice for Hon. Lorot and restoring confidence in the region’s security framework.
