Isiolo County Assembly Speaker, Hon. Mohamed Roba Qoto (OGW, CSMP(R), M.ISMI), has strongly condemned the violent attack on Hon. Nicholas Lorot, Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Burat Ward.
The assault, which occurred on the evening of March 26, 2025, has sent shockwaves throughout the Assembly and the wider Isiolo community.
In a press briefing, Speaker Roba Qoto decried the attack as a heinous and cowardly act that has no place in a civilized, democratic society.
He expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of violence targeting leaders and urged the public to remain calm while security agencies conduct thorough investigations.
Call for Restraint and Due Process
Speaker Roba Qoto cautioned against the spread of misinformation, emphasizing that speculation and premature conclusions could undermine the rule of law and the pursuit of justice.
“The spread of misinformation and premature conclusions only serves to weaken public confidence in legal processes,” he stated. “My office is fully engaged with security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of this senseless act are swiftly brought to justice and that stability is restored.”
He called on the people of Isiolo to allow investigative authorities to operate independently and free from undue pressure, reiterating that justice must be pursued through lawful means.
Solidarity with Hon. Lorot and His Family
The Speaker expressed unwavering support for Hon. Lorot, his family, and the people of Burat Ward.
He assured them that the County Assembly stands in solidarity with the injured MCA and remains committed to safeguarding the security of all elected leaders and their constituents.
Hon. Lorot is currently receiving specialized medical care, and all necessary measures have been mobilized to ensure his well-being.
Speaker Roba commended the medical team for their swift response and ongoing efforts in attending to the injured legislator.
“Violence, intimidation, and fear-mongering will never silence the voices of our representatives or the will of the people,” he affirmed. “We stand united with Hon. Lorot and all those who champion peace, justice, and democratic governance in Isiolo and beyond.”
Commitment to Justice and Security
Reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to justice, Speaker Roba Qoto called upon all stakeholders—including security agencies, political leaders, and community members—to work collaboratively in upholding the rule of law and ensuring that such incidents do not recur.
He further led a delegation of County Assembly members to visit Hon. Lorot and his family, offering moral support during this difficult time.
The Speaker reassured the public that Lorot’s condition is being closely monitored by a team of medical professionals and expressed optimism for his full recovery.
