Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan (Guyo) has strongly condemned the shooting of Burat Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Nicholas Lorot in an attack that has sparked widespread concern and fear in the region.

The governor has urged security agencies to expedite investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that acts of violence will not be tolerated in Isiolo.

Details of the Attack

The incident occurred on the evening of March 26, 2025, outside Northern Galaxy Hotel in Isiolo.

According to reports, Lorot had stepped out of a meeting with fellow MCA David Lemantile and two youth leaders to take a phone call when an unidentified assailant approached him.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the attacker, who was wearing a helmet, crossed the highway toward the parking lot where Lorot was inside his vehicle.

Without warning, the assailant fired two shots, striking the MCA in the arm and collarbone.

After the attack, the shooter quickly fled the scene. He crossed back to the other side of the road, where a waiting motorcycle was stationed.

He then hopped onto the motorcycle and sped off, leaving behind shocked bystanders who rushed to assist the wounded MCA.

Lorot, who was bleeding profusely, was quickly taken to a medical facility for emergency treatment.

Governor Guyo’s Statement and Call for Justice

In response to the incident, Governor Guyo issued a statement expressing his deep concern and condemning the attack in the strongest terms.

“I have received reports of a distressing incident in which Hon. Nicholas Lorot was shot and injured by unknown assailants.” Guyo stated.

“I strongly condemn this heinous act and have asked the security agencies to expedite investigations and ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice,” the governor added.

The governor extended his well-wishes to Lorot and his family, offering his prayers for the MCA’s recovery.

He also reassured the residents of Burat Ward and Isiolo County that his administration remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding law and order.

“We remain committed to ensuring that such acts of violence are not tolerated in Isiolo,” Governor Guyo affirmed.

Rising Security Concerns in Isiolo

The attack on MCA Lorot has reignited concerns over rising insecurity in Isiolo, where political tensions and criminal activities have led to sporadic violent incidents.

The brazenness of the attack—carried out in a public space and targeting an elected leader—has amplified fears among residents and local leaders.

Leaders and community members have called for enhanced security measures, urging authorities to crack down on criminal elements that continue to threaten stability in the region.

Many are questioning whether the attack was politically motivated or part of a broader security problem affecting Isiolo.

Security agencies are now under pressure to determine the motive behind the attack and apprehend those responsible.

The incident has also fueled demands for better protection of public officials, particularly in areas where political rivalry and personal disputes have previously led to violence.

Call for Swift Action and Justice

As the investigation unfolds, attention remains focused on Lorot’s recovery and the urgent need for authorities to bring the attackers to book.

The incident serves as a reminder of the growing security challenges facing Isiolo, with calls for authorities to implement stricter security measures to protect both leaders and residents.

The coming days will be critical in shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the attack and ensuring that justice is served swiftly.
