Washington, D.C., USA| President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform Tuesday morning to issue a strong defense of Elon Musk, his close ally and a key figure in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Trump praised Musk’s contributions to the country and denounced efforts to boycott Tesla, the electric vehicle company owned by Musk.
“To Republicans, Conservatives, and all great Americans, Elon Musk is ‘putting it on the line’ in order to help our nation, and he is doing a fantastic job!” Trump wrote.
The president’s statement comes amid mounting calls by some Americans to boycott Tesla, with critics citing Musk’s political stances and his involvement in DOGE, an agency focused on streamlining government operations.
Some Democratic leaders have voiced opposition to Musk’s role in the administration, while others have encouraged consumers to distance themselves from his businesses.
Trump characterized the boycott effort as a politically motivated attack by the “radical left” aimed at undermining Musk and his broader influence.
“In any event, I’m going to buy a brand-new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American,” Trump announced.
Shortly after Trump’s statement, Musk responded via his X social media platform, writing simply: “Thank you, President Donald Trump.”
The Tesla boycott movement has gained traction in certain circles, with some Americans selling their vehicles in protest.
Others, however, have chosen to keep their Teslas but have taken measures to rebrand them—such as removing Tesla logos or modifying the car’s appearance—to avoid being associated with Musk or to prevent potential vandalism.
