Isiolo, Kenya| In a historic milestone for land security and governance, Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo has announced significant progress in securing community land rights for local residents.

The registration of Cherab and Chari under the Community Land Act marks a major breakthrough, paving the way for land surveying and the eventual issuance of Community Land Titles.

This initiative aims to strengthen land tenure security and empower communities with formal ownership.

Land Registration and Titling Progress

Governor Guyo confirmed that the adjudication process in Garbatulla has been successfully completed in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands.

This critical step now allows for the surveying of individual land parcels, securing public utility spaces, and issuing formal land ownership documents.

The governor emphasized that the formalization of land ownership would ensure that residents receive fair compensation for infrastructure projects, particularly the Horn of Africa Road, a key transport corridor poised to boost regional connectivity and economic growth.

Modernizing Land Governance Through Digitization

In a move to streamline land administration, the Isiolo County Government, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under the Digital Land Governance Program, is setting up a Geographic Information System (GIS) laboratory.

The facility will digitize land records, ensuring more efficient, transparent, and accessible land governance.

Additionally, the county is in the final stages of developing a spatial plan, aimed at improving land use management and urban planning.

This plan is expected to guide sustainable development, minimize land conflicts, and enhance infrastructure planning for a rapidly growing Isiolo County.

Governor Guyo’s Commitment to Land Security

Governor Guyo reiterated his administration’s dedication to addressing long-standing land challenges in Isiolo, a county where disputes over land ownership have historically hampered development.

He assured residents that these initiatives would provide permanent solutions by safeguarding community interests, promoting economic growth, and ensuring orderly land use for future generations.

“This is a historic step for Isiolo County. By securing land rights and digitizing records, we are laying the foundation for sustainable development and economic empowerment,” Governor Guyo stated.

The progress made under Governor Guyo’s leadership signals a transformative shift in land governance in Isiolo.

As the county moves toward full implementation of land registration and digitization, residents can look forward to enhanced security, better infrastructure, and a more structured approach to land ownership.
