Washington, D.C., USA| A tense security incident unfolded near the White House late Saturday night as U.S. Secret Service agents shot an armed man, the agency confirmed early Sunday.
The shooting occurred while President Donald Trump was away at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida for the weekend.
According to a statement released by Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, the unidentified man was taken to a hospital for treatment. His current condition remains unknown.
The statement did not disclose whether the suspect posed a direct threat to the White House or if there was any indication that President Trump was a potential target.
“No injuries to Secret Service agents were reported,” Guglielmi stated in a post on the social media platform X.
Details regarding the nature of the suspect’s weapon, his identity, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear.
Law enforcement authorities have yet to provide information on whether the man ignored warnings or acted aggressively before being shot.
The White House, one of the most heavily guarded locations in the world, has long been a focal point for security threats.
The Secret Service, responsible for protecting the president and key government figures, maintains strict protocols to counter potential dangers, particularly in light of past security breaches.
Authorities are expected to release further details following an ongoing investigation into the incident.
