Washington, D.C., USA| A tense and highly unusual confrontation unfolded in the White House on Friday as U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy openly argued in front of reporters over the prospect of negotiating peace with Russia.
The heated exchange, which took place in the Oval Office, underscored deep divisions between the two leaders regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine and the conditions for a potential truce.
During the meeting, Trump admonished Zelensky for his stance on negotiations with Russia, warning him that the U.S. would not continue to support Ukraine unconditionally.
“You’re in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel,” Trump told Zelensky. “Either make a deal [with Russia], or we’re out.”
His remarks signaled a stark shift in U.S. policy, as the Trump administration appears to be pressing Ukraine to compromise with Moscow to end the nearly three-year-long war.
Zelensky, visibly frustrated, rejected the notion of making concessions to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he referred to as a “killer.”

U.S. Vice President JD Vance, seated nearby, also joined in the rebuke, accusing Zelenskyy of being “disrespectful” toward his American allies.
