Senator Fatuma Dullo Has Demanded the Immediate Overhaul of Isiolo Security Apparatus Following Chaos During President Ruto’s Visit

________________

Nairobi, Kenya| Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo has called for an urgent overhaul of the county’s security apparatus following violent disruptions during President William Ruto’s recent visit.

Speaking in a stormy Senate session, Dullo condemned the chaos, which saw heckling, disorder, and allegations of orchestrated violence, blaming both the county leadership and compromised security agencies for failing to prevent the incident.

Dullo, a fierce advocate for law, order, and regional development, painted a grim picture of Isiolo’s governance and security situation, accusing officials of neglect, corruption, and complicity in activities that threaten the county’s stability.

She demanded immediate investigations into the violence, drug trade, and what she termed as politically motivated intimidation of opposition voices.

Isiolo Chaos: A Pre-Planned Disruption?

The President’s visit, intended to address key development projects and policy matters, was overshadowed by disruptive protests and heckling, forcing security personnel into action.

Videos circulated on social media showed rowdy youths engaging in disorder, prompting speculation that the chaos had been orchestrated.

Senator Dulo pointed the finger directly at her political rival, Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan (Guyo), accusing him of deliberately excluding key local leaders from planning the visit and instead mobilizing intoxicated youths to disrupt proceedings.

“There is a leaked video of the governor, speaking on the phone, threatening to mobilize 5,000 youths to be transported to the venue. This was not spontaneous. This was a well-planned political sabotage,” Dullo claimed.

She further alleged that Governor Guyo has been using youth gangs to silence critics and create an atmosphere of intimidation and lawlessness in Isiolo, severely hampering efforts to foster unity and development.

Security Agencies Under Scrutiny

Dulo did not spare Isiolo’s senior security officials, accusing them of gross negligence for ignoring multiple warnings about possible disruptions.

She revealed that local leaders, including herself, had raised concerns ahead of the visit, but their pleas were ignored.

“Their failure to act on clear intelligence and implement proper crowd control measures raises serious questions about their competence and impartiality,” she stated.

She further claimed that Isiolo is experiencing systematic security failures, which endanger residents’ lives and livelihoods. Among the serious allegations she raised were:

  • Corrupt security officers demanding bribes from victims of cattle rustling instead of taking action against perpetrators.
  • The alleged protection of Jeshi La Mawe, a notorious urban gang, by elements within the security forces, which has been terrorizing residents opposing the county leadership.
  • A rampant drug trade in Isiolo, with narcotics being sold openly in the town and its environs. She accused political figures of benefiting from the drug trade and using the proceeds to fund political chaos and maintain influence over security agencies.

Political Persecution & Selective Justice

Beyond the security lapses, Senator Dulo decried what she called a blatant case of selective justice, claiming that while her staff members were being targeted, known hecklers and political goons associated with the county leadership were walking free.

“We cannot have a situation where politically connected individuals get away with inciting violence, while innocent staff members face intimidation. This is an unacceptable abuse of power,” she asserted.

Dullo insisted that law enforcement should act impartially, ensuring that all those responsible for the chaos—regardless of political affiliation—are brought to justice.

Demands for Immediate Action

To address the deteriorating situation in Isiolo, Senator Dullo called for a multi-agency intervention, demanding:

  1. A full overhaul of Isiolo’s security leadership, citing compromised officers who have failed to enforce law and order.
  2. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the suspicious wealth of political figures fueling unrest and insecurity.
  3. The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) to probe the thriving drug trade in Isiolo and its links to political sponsorship.
  4. An independent security audit into why intelligence warnings on the President’s visit were ignored and why crowd control measures were inadequate.

A County on the Brink?

Senator Fatuma Dullo’s powerful address has once again put Isiolo’s governance and security failures in the national spotlight.

As the Senate session adjourned, it became evident that the chaos during President Ruto’s visit was just a symptom of deeper, systemic issues.

Whether the government will heed her calls for urgent intervention remains to be seen.

However, the growing instability in Isiolo—marked by violence, corruption, and unchecked criminal activities—raises serious concerns about public safety, democracy, and the rule of law in the county.

With pressure mounting, all eyes are now on the national security agencies and investigative bodies to determine if action will be taken—or if Isiolo will continue its descent into lawlessness and political intimidation.
