French President Emmanuel Macron held discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following a high-level summit in Paris, reaffirming France’s commitment to lasting peace in Ukraine and the broader security framework of Europe.
In a statement released after the summit, Macron underscored the urgent need for Russia to cease its military aggression against Ukraine.
He emphasized that achieving a sustainable and durable peace would require not only an end to hostilities but also the establishment of robust security guarantees to ensure Ukraine’s long-term stability.
“We seek a lasting and durable peace in Ukraine. To achieve this, Russia must stop its aggression, and this must be accompanied by strong and reliable security guarantees for Ukrainians,” Macron stated.
Beyond the situation in Ukraine, Macron highlighted the necessity for European nations to enhance their collective security efforts.
He stressed that European countries must work together to strengthen their defense capabilities, ensuring long-term stability and resilience against emerging threats.
“The parties are convinced that Europeans must invest better, more, and together in their security and defense—both today and in the future,” he said.
The discussions with Trump and Zelenskyy come at a crucial moment as European leaders seek to reinforce their defense strategies amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
Macron’s diplomatic engagement reflects his broader vision of a Europe that is more strategically autonomous while maintaining strong transatlantic alliances.
While details of the conversations remain undisclosed, Macron’s outreach to Trump signals an interest in understanding the potential foreign policy direction of the United States, particularly as President Trump hints at peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin without involving Kyiv and Europe.
Meanwhile, his continued dialogue with Zelenskyy reaffirms France’s unwavering support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
As the conflict in Ukraine persists and global security concerns mount, Macron’s diplomatic efforts underscore France’s determination to play a central role in shaping a secure and stable future for Europe.
