Addis Ababa, Ethiopia| The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, actively participated in the opening of the 38th African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government Summit, which commenced in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The high-level meeting brought together African leaders to discuss key issues affecting the continent, including leadership transitions, regional security, and strategies for sustainable development.
A key agenda of the summit was the election of a new Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
Somalia, as a dedicated member of the AU, played an active role in the discussions surrounding these leadership changes and the broader reform of AU institutions to enhance their effectiveness in addressing Africa’s challenges.
President Hassan Sheikh also participated in the African Peace and Security Conference, an important session that assessed the progress and challenges of peacekeeping missions across the continent.
Discussions focused on strengthening the AU’s capacity to respond to conflicts, support post-conflict stabilization efforts, and foster long-term peace and security in Africa.
Reaffirming Somalia’s commitment to African unity and regional cooperation, President Hassan Sheikh expressed gratitude to the AU for its unwavering support to Somalia, particularly in the areas of security, stabilization, and peacebuilding.
The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has played a crucial role in combating terrorism and supporting the Somali government’s efforts to restore lasting peace and stability.
The summit continues to serve as a crucial platform for African leaders to collaborate on shared challenges, reinforce diplomatic ties, and develop collective strategies for economic growth, governance reforms, and conflict resolution across the continent.
As the African Union moves forward with new leadership and renewed commitments, Somalia remains steadfast in its pursuit of a stable, united, and prosperous Africa.
