Addis Ababa, Ethiopia| In a significant diplomatic engagement, Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gedion Timothewos, held bilateral discussions with his Mauritanian counterpart, Dr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, on the sidelines of the 38th African Union (AU) Summit.
The meeting focused on deepening economic, cultural, and diplomatic ties between Ethiopia and Mauritania while reinforcing cooperation on regional and multilateral fronts.
Dr. Gedion extended his congratulations to Dr. Merzoug on the successful completion of his tenure as Chairperson of the Executive Council of the African Union, acknowledging his dedication to advancing the continent’s collective interests.
Dr. Merzoug, who also serves as Mauritania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, played a pivotal role in shaping policies and fostering unity within the AU during his tenure.
The two ministers engaged in comprehensive discussions on enhancing economic collaboration and cultural exchanges, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Mauritania.
They recognized the growing importance of fostering trade, investment, and development partnerships to drive mutual prosperity.
Beyond bilateral matters, both leaders underscored the necessity of enhanced collaboration on continental and global multilateral platforms, emphasizing the need for unified African positions on key international issues.

They reaffirmed their commitment to working together within the AU and other global organizations to advocate for Africa’s interests in areas such as peace and security, economic integration, and sustainable development.
