•Water Expansion to Enhance Access for Mutithi Ward Residents
Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru has announced the extension of the Kerugoya-Kutus Bulk Water Project to reach an additional 1,000 households in Mutithi Ward.
This expansion is set to improve access to clean water for more residents, reinforcing the county’s commitment to equitable development.
Speaking while distributing 164 high-density water pipes for the Kinyaga Water Project, Governor Waiguru emphasized that with the increased capacity, the county government can now connect more families to a reliable water supply.
Already, the Kerugoya-Kutus Bulk Water Project has benefited approximately 400,000 residents across the county, ensuring a steady flow of clean water to homes, institutions, and markets.
“The Kinyaga Water Project will be instrumental in providing water to residents, key institutions, and markets such as Kagio and Kandongu, ensuring they have consistent and safe water supply,” Waiguru explained.

Addressing residents at Kiangogu Village in Mwea West, the governor noted that the newly distributed pipes would facilitate water distribution sourced from the Rwamuthambi River.
The project will directly benefit residents of Rwang’ondu, Kiamaciri, Kiunga, Gatwara, and Kiambati villages, further advancing the county’s mission of equitable development.
“This initiative aligns with our equitable development agenda, which focuses on uplifting the living standards of our people across the county,” Waiguru added.
Supporting Education Through ECDE Development
In addition to enhancing water access, Governor Waiguru also spearheaded an Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) initiative aimed at improving the learning environment for young children in Mutithi Ward.
As part of the initiative, she distributed learning materials, furniture, and free school uniforms to 1,012 ECDE learners—496 girls and 516 boys. Institutions such as Kagio, Kandongu, Rwang’ongu, and Mugaa ECDE centers received new classroom furniture and storage units.

“Education is the foundation of a bright future, and we are committed to providing our young learners with the best environment to thrive,” Waiguru said, reaffirming her administration’s dedication to early childhood education.
Empowering Communities Through Welfare and Sports
Beyond water and education, Governor Waiguru also provided essential resources to community welfare groups and local sports teams.
Several welfare groups received plastic chairs and tents, while local sports teams were equipped with assorted sports kits to support their growth and development.
“Youth empowerment remains a priority in our county’s development agenda. We are committed to nurturing sports talent and creating opportunities for our young people to use their skills for economic gain,” she stated.
The governor also took the opportunity to encourage the youth to stay focused and avoid distractions such as drug and alcohol abuse, urging them to channel their energy into productive ventures.
Governor Waiguru’s multi-faceted development approach, from water supply expansion to education support and youth empowerment, highlights her administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Kirinyaga residents.
Through strategic projects and targeted interventions, the county continues to make significant strides in infrastructure, education, and social welfare, paving the way for sustainable community growth.
