Isiolo, Kenya| The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the arrest of Sadam Buke, a resident of Isiolo, who was reported missing, stating that he is in lawful custody alongside other individuals apprehended during the ongoing security operation, Operation Ondoa Jangili.
In an official press statement, the NPS revealed that Buke is suspected of being a key facilitator and coordinator of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) in Isiolo and Marsabit counties.
The statement, signed by police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, also dismissed allegations circulating on social media that Buke had been abducted.
“The attention of the National Police Service has been drawn to information circulating on social media alleging that one Sadam Buke has been abducted. We wish to clarify that Sadam Buke is in lawful custody alongside others. He is suspected of being a key facilitator and coordinator of the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) in both Isiolo and Marsabit counties. He was arrested during the ongoing mounted Operation Ondoa Jangili, being conducted in both Isiolo and Marsabit Counties. He and others are expected to be arraigned in court,” the statement read.

The police further reiterated their commitment to upholding constitutional standards, human rights, and fundamental freedoms throughout the operation.
Family Disputes Allegations, Demands Justice
While Buke’s family has expressed relief at his confirmed whereabouts, they strongly deny the accusations leveled against him.
They maintain that he has never been involved with the alleged group and are calling on authorities to expedite his case with urgency.
The family has also accused the police of unlawfully detaining their kin beyond the legally mandated 24-hour period without presenting him in court.
They expressed concern over the secrecy surrounding his arrest, claiming that security officials withheld information about his custody for an extended period, fueling fears of possible mistreatment or torture.
Additionally, the family has criticized the police for allegedly denying Buke legal representation, which is a fundamental right under Kenyan law.
They have since begun seeking legal assistance, appealing to friends, relatives, and well-wishers for financial support, citing their limited financial resources.
Concerns Over Ongoing Security Operation
Buke is not the only individual arrested as part of Operation Ondoa Jangili. Reports indicate that another person has also been taken into custody, though their family, like Buke’s, has vehemently denied any connections to the alleged group.
The operation, launched to crack down on criminal elements in Isiolo and Marsabit counties, has stirred controversy, with some families accusing security forces of conducting arbitrary arrests.
Human rights organizations and legal experts are now monitoring the situation, urging authorities to ensure that all suspects are accorded due process under the law.
As investigations continue, the spotlight remains on the National Police Service to ensure that justice is served fairly and transparently, balancing national security efforts with the protection of individual rights.
