•Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki Reaffirms Commitment to Economic Growth Through Value Chains and Industrialization
Karen, Nairobi| The Kenyan government is intensifying its efforts to track and ensure the successful implementation of its Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), with a particular focus on key economic sectors such as agriculture, livestock, fisheries, mining, and the blue economy.
Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki emphasized this during a consultative forum with leaders from Isiolo County, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving livelihoods at the grassroots level.
Boosting Livestock Value Chains
In a bid to enhance the economic fortunes of pastoralist communities, the government is prioritizing the revitalization of livestock value chains.
Isiolo County and other regions heavily reliant on pastoralism stand to benefit significantly from these interventions, which aim to improve market access and maximize returns for livestock keepers.
By linking livestock farmers to international markets, the initiative is expected to uplift household incomes and enhance the overall economic stability of pastoralist communities.
Leather Industry Expansion Through KLIP
A major highlight of the government’s industrialization drive is the Kenya Leather Industrial Park (KLIP), currently under construction in Kenanie, Machakos County.
The project, which is in its advanced stages, is set to revolutionize the leather industry by providing a structured platform for value addition and manufacturing of hides and skins.
Once operational, KLIP is expected to significantly boost the leather sector’s contribution to the economy, increasing its annual revenue from KSh 15 billion to KSh 175 billion.
Furthermore, the number of jobs in the industry is projected to rise from the current 17,000 to an impressive 100,000, offering substantial employment opportunities for Kenyans.
Consultative Forum on Isiolo Development
Deputy President Kindiki concluded a high-level consultative meeting with Isiolo County leaders to assess the status of various development projects and government initiatives aimed at driving economic transformation.
The meeting brought together key county leadership, including Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan, Deputy Governor James Lowassa, Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya, and Isiolo North MP Joseph Lomwa Samal.
Also in attendance were Members of the Isiolo County Assembly, led by Speaker Mohamed Roba, along with professionals, economic sector leaders, and grassroots representatives.
The discussions centered on accelerating the implementation of ongoing projects, addressing local economic challenges, and ensuring that government interventions align with the needs of the community.
Government’s Commitment to Economic Transformation
The Deputy President reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering economic growth through targeted investments in priority sectors.
By focusing on value chains with the highest impact on citizens, the BETA framework seeks to create sustainable livelihoods, generate employment, and drive Kenya’s overall economic growth.
As the government continues to track the progress of these initiatives, stakeholders remain optimistic that the transformation agenda will lead to tangible improvements in household incomes and economic resilience across the country.
