Tripoli, Libya| The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held high-level meetings with the Chairman of Libya’s Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, and the country’s Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, in Tripoli.

The discussions centred on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in key areas, including irregular migration, economic partnerships, energy collaboration, and diplomatic ties.

A major focus of the talks was the plight of Somali migrants currently in Libya. President Mohamud expressed gratitude to the Libyan government for its assistance in repatriating stranded Somali nationals who had encountered severe hardships in the North African country.

He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to the challenges of irregular migration and ensuring the well-being of its citizens abroad.

Beyond migration, the leaders explored avenues to enhance economic and political cooperation between the two nations.

They acknowledged the historical and fraternal ties between Somalia and Libya and agreed on the need to foster deeper collaboration in trade, investment, and development projects.

Energy cooperation was another key agenda item. President Mohamud and Chairman al-Menfi emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange and technological partnerships in the energy sector, particularly in renewable energy development and oil exploration.

Both sides expressed interest in accelerating joint efforts to unlock the economic potential of their natural resources.

A significant milestone of the visit was the signing of multiple agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral economic ties and social development initiatives.

The agreements, signed by ministers and senior officials from both governments, cover areas such as investment promotion, economic integration, and public service cooperation.

The Somali President’s visit to Libya highlights the growing diplomatic engagements between Mogadishu and Tripoli, as both nations seek to address common challenges and leverage strategic partnerships for mutual benefit.
