21 year old Mason Greenwood has had all charges and allegations against him dropped. The Manchester United forward had faced allegations which saw him receive alot of social media uproar.
Greenwood was due to stand trial in November accused of attempted rape, assault and coercive control.
He was also accused of “repeatedly engaging” in controlling and coercive behaviour for almost four years – including making threats and derogatory comments on social media.
The Crown Prosecution today confirmed they had dropped all charges against him.A CPS spokesman said: “In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction”.
“In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case.”Mason was charged with attempting to rape the woman on October 21, 2021, and allegedly assaulted her between December 12, 2021, and December 31, 2021.
Despite his suspension from Utd but still received his weekly salary. He was removed from FIFA 22 and dropped by sponsors Nike after news of the allegations went viral in January 2022.
Questions are now to Manchester united if he will be allowed back on the pitch. Fans have split sides with some in support of Mason due to his footballing ability and what he would add to the squad.
