Marsabit Governor Mohammud Ali has commissioned 1040 students who are part of the 5th Cohort of the Marsabit County Education Fund(MCEF).
The beneficiaries are needy and bright students who managed to score above 300 marks for girls and 320 marks for boys in the 2022 KCPE.
The County government will pay in full secondary school fees for the next four years for all the students in the schools admitted as part of the scholarship scheme in 2023.
The scholarship programme was launched in 2019 and has so far benefitted over 2650 students.
The County is set to spend around 143 million($1M+) to roll out the scholarship in 2023 alone.
Education CS Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu officiated the event which was also attended by other leaders, parents, teachers and other education stakeholders in the County.
Scholarship programmes have become the in-thing among some Frontier counties as Mandera recently rolled out its own inaugural scholarship scheme targeting public schools in the County.
The governor, Ahmed Khalif commissioned a 350 million kitty which effectively made public schools within the county free across board for all students.
