Cabinet nominees who had been duly vetted and approved by the National Assembly have been sworn into office at the lawns of State House. Twenty four of them in total, the president says he has absolute hope in the team to change the fortunes of the country and its people for the better.
Several issues came up during and after the vetting process where some cabinet nominees who include Aisha Jumwa, Mithika Linturi and Josephine Malombe were earlier rejected by the vetting committee of parliament. In the case of Jumwa and Linturi, the Azimio side of the committee said the two nominees had so many cases in court ranging from murder, forgery et cetera and expressed their dissatisfaction with their nomination. The committee wondered how the nominees will discharge their duties with the cases they face in court.
For Josephine Malombe, there earlier was a sense of discomfort as the nominee was unable to answer basic questions posed to her by the members of the committee. When the committee sought to know how she(Malombe) would go about marketing Kenya to the world, being the substantive nominee for tourism, she was unable to clearly outline her plan for the ministry.
Malombe’s faltering caused discomfort even with the vetting committee, majority of whom were from Kenya Kwanza coalition, the vehicle that got the president to the state house. Her nomination was earlier on unanimously rejected by the committee but as things would turn, she was later approved by the National Assembly.
