Isiolo’s Musical Trailblazer Sets Sights on Expanding Her Career

Sadia Haro Wario, popularly known by her stage name Sahawa, has taken the Kenyan music scene, and, in particular, the nascent Northern Kenya showbiz industry by storm, transitioning from a political campaign vocalist to an emerging secular artist.

Her rise to fame began earlier this year during the just-concluded Kenyan general elections, where her political compositions resonated deeply with voters across Isiolo and beyond.

From Political Tunes to Widespread Recognition

Sahawa’s journey as an artist started when she composed and sang campaign songs for Mumina Bonaya, the incumbent Isiolo County Women Representative.

Her music, infused with messages of hope, resilience, and leadership, struck a chord with the electorate, catapulting her into the limelight.

As her songs gained traction, a stream of aspirants sought her services, hoping that her musical influence would help rally support for their campaigns.

Soon, her reputation spread across the Afaan-Oromo-Borana-speaking communities in counties such as Marsabit, Isiolo, Wajir, Mandera, and Tana River.

Aspirants traveled from far and wide, eager to tap into her ability to rejuvenate their political bases.

Among the notable political figures who enlisted her services were Mandera Governor Mohamed Ahmed Khalif and Marsabit County senatorial aspirant Captain Galgalo, who narrowly lost to Mohamed Chute and that is just to mention but a few.

Sahawa’s impact in the political sphere was undeniable, solidifying her place as a sought-after voice in regional campaigns.

A Bold Transition: Sahawa Steps into Secular Music

Having built a formidable reputation in political music, Sahawa recently ventured into the secular music industry.

She made her debut appearance as a secular artist at Angaaf Radio Studios, where she was hosted by popular presenter DJ Hydrogen (Hadija) on the station’s afternoon primetime show.

The highlight of the interview was Sahawa’s newly released song, “Askootu”, an Afaan-Oromo phrase loosely translating to “Come Here.”

The song, which revolves around themes of love, marks a significant departure from her previous political compositions.

During the interview, DJ Hydrogen playfully grilled Sahawa about the song’s inspiration, particularly a mention of Golole—a place referenced in the lyrics.

The artist clarified that the mention was purely for artistic rhythm and had no deeper personal significance.

The conversation took an intriguing turn when the host probed whether Sahawa had a special someone in mind while composing the love song, especially considering the emotional tribute to “Manyatta Father” in the lyrics.

However, Sahawa dismissed any romantic speculation, affirming that she is currently single.

She explained that her tribute to Manyatta Father was a nostalgic nod to her birthplace, where she grew up and received most of her education.

A Community’s Pride and Rising Star

Sahawa’s transition to secular music has been met with overwhelming support, especially from her home region.

As one of the very few artists from Isiolo pursuing a professional music career, she stands out as a trailblazer.

In fact, she is the only commercial artist from Merti Sub-County, making her an inspiration to many, particularly in the Cherab and Charri zones.

Her fans, family, and friends have shown immense support for her artistic journey, with numerous callers on Angaaf Radio expressing admiration for her dedication and talent.

Many encouraged her to keep pushing forward, ensuring that her musical legacy continues to grow.

Looking Ahead: More Music on the Way

In wrapping up the interview, Sahawa assured her audience that she is here to stay, dispelling any fears of becoming a one-hit wonder.

She revealed that she has numerous projects in the pipeline, with plans to release more music in the coming days, weeks, and months.

She expressed heartfelt gratitude to her supporters, emphasizing that their unwavering encouragement has been a driving force in her journey.

As Sahawa continues to carve her path in the Kenyan music industry, her story serves as an inspiration—proof that talent, hard work, and passion can break barriers, even in regions where professional music careers are rare.

Her fans eagerly await what’s next, and if her trajectory so far is any indication, Sahawa is just getting started.
