•Governor Khalif Has Vowed to Pursue Justice and Support for Victims
Mandera County Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif has strongly condemned a brutal attack that occurred on May 8 in Malka Mari Ward, Mandera County, which resulted in the tragic loss of six innocent lives and left several others injured.
In an official statement released shortly after the incident, Governor Khalif described the attack as “heinous” and extended his deepest sympathies to the affected families.
“I condemn, in the strongest terms possible, today’s heinous incident in Malka Mari Ward leading to the unfortunate loss of six innocent lives,” he stated.
The governor expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of unwavering support from his administration during what he termed an “incredibly difficult moment.”
He also wished a swift and full recovery to those who were injured and are currently undergoing treatment.
While details surrounding the attack remain scant, the incident has sent shockwaves throughout the region, which has long grappled with insecurity due to its proximity to volatile border zones.
The nature of the attack and the identity or motives of the perpetrators had not been officially confirmed by authorities at the time of reporting.
Governor Khalif affirmed the county government’s resolve to seek justice, vowing that those behind the attack would be brought to account.
“As the county leadership, we reaffirm our commitment to diligently pursuing justice and ensuring that those responsible for this inhumane act are held accountable,” he added.
The attack has reignited concerns over security lapses in Mandera County, particularly in remote and underserved areas such as Malka Mari, which borders Somalia and has in the past witnessed violent incursions and cross-border criminal activities.
Residents and local leaders have frequently appealed for enhanced security presence and coordination between county and national security agencies.
Security agencies have reportedly launched investigations and patrols in the area as part of efforts to restore calm and apprehend those involved. Meanwhile, humanitarian efforts are underway to support the affected families.
This latest tragedy underscores the ongoing challenges facing northeastern Kenya and the need for sustained and collaborative measures to ensure lasting peace and protection for vulnerable communities.
More updates are expected as investigations continue.
