Marsabit, Kenya| In a significant development aimed at strengthening healthcare services in northern Kenya, the Senate Standing Committee on Health, chaired by Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, embarked on an oversight mission to Marsabit County to evaluate the status of medical facilities and service delivery.
The delegation was received by Marsabit Governor Mohamud Mohamed Ali, who welcomed the Committee’s visit as an important step in fostering collaboration between county and national health institutions.
He emphasized that his administration viewed the engagement as an opportunity to showcase major achievements in the health sector, including the expansion of infrastructure, acquisition of modern medical equipment, capacity building for healthcare personnel, and the improved accessibility of essential health services across the county.
During their tour of the Marsabit County Referral Hospital, the Senate Committee expressed satisfaction with the progress made, particularly within the maternity and newborn unit.
The facility was found to be clean, well-organized, and adequately equipped, with staff demonstrating commendable professionalism.
These improvements were viewed as a reflection of the county government’s commitment to providing quality maternal and child health services.
Despite these gains, the Committee identified several areas needing urgent attention. Among the issues raised were gaps in administrative efficiency and a shortage of healthcare personnel, which they noted could undermine the overall effectiveness of service delivery if not addressed promptly.
In response to these observations, the governor acknowledged the concerns and affirmed that discussions with the Senate team were productive and solution-oriented.
Both sides agreed on concrete measures to address the challenges and reinforce the healthcare system’s foundations.

In a separate event on the same day, the governor oversaw the arrival of new medical equipment at Sololo Level Four Hospital.
This development was described as part of the county’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare capacity at the grassroots level.
With each delivery of new equipment, the facility moves closer to being fully equipped to serve the needs of the local population effectively.
Governor Ali reiterated that the county remains committed to continuous improvement and will work closely with national bodies such as the Senate and the Ministry of Health to ensure equitable, high-quality healthcare access for all residents.
