Isiolo County, Kenya| In a landmark moment for Isiolo County’s political landscape, Dida Abkul Wajera, popularly known as “Deep State,” has been elected the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party chairperson for Isiolo during the ruling party’s ongoing nationwide grassroots elections.

Dida’s victory signals not only a generational shift in local political leadership but also a strategic realignment by the UDA Party as it seeks to reconnect with its support base ahead of the 2027 general elections, where President William Ruto will be defending his seat under the UDA banner.

The Rise of a Political Firebrand

Dida Wajera is no stranger to the Isiolo political scene. A fearless political activist, seasoned digital strategist, and a widely respected blogger, Dida has cultivated a reputation as a man of the people—outspoken, principled, and deeply rooted in the everyday struggles of the common mwananchi.

His political moniker “Deep State” reflects both his sharp understanding of political undercurrents and his strategic ability to navigate complex power dynamics, earning him both grassroots admiration and elite respect.

He has been an influential voice in promoting the “hustler” narrative—the founding ethos of the UDA Party that champions the empowerment of ordinary Kenyans, especially youth and informal workers.

His election is widely viewed as a statement of intent by party supporters eager to see the UDA refocus on its original vision.

A Mandate with Muscle

As county party chairperson, Dida Wajera will assume sweeping responsibilities. He will steer the UDA Party’s operations in Isiolo, spearhead mobilization efforts, and act as the bridge between the party’s national leadership and the grassroots.

More importantly, he is now the face of UDA in a county where the party seeks to deepen its influence amid growing criticism that it has drifted away from its “bottom-up” economic model.

Restoring public trust in the party at the local level is among Dida’s biggest challenges.

Although UDA rose to power promising to uplift the downtrodden, discontent has been simmering among the populace over unmet expectations.

Many voters feel sidelined, and party loyalists hope Dida’s populist approach and community rapport can help reinvigorate support in the region.

Party Elections Signal Strategic Renewal

The just-concluded grassroots elections were part of a sweeping, countrywide restructuring by the UDA Party across all 47 counties.

The exercise is aimed at strengthening internal democracy, revamping local leadership, and building a robust campaign infrastructure ahead of the next electoral cycle.

In Isiolo, several other key positions were filled alongside Dida’s appointment. Abdikadir Adan Sime, popularly known as “Jack,” was elected UDA County Youth Representative.

Meanwhile, Abdirahim Sheikh Adan, alias DJ Baha—a former presenter at Angaaf Radio and a beloved master of ceremonies—clinched the position of UDA Chairperson for Burat Ward.

DJ Baha’s transition from a vibrant media personality to a political leader underscores a broader trend of youthful, media-savvy individuals stepping into leadership roles.

Results from other wards across Isiolo County are still being compiled and will be reported as updates become available.

Widespread Support and High Expectations

Dida Wajera’s election has been met with an outpouring of congratulations and praise from across Isiolo and beyond.

Supporters describe him as humble, intelligent, and in touch with the needs of ordinary citizens.

“Your win is a big morale boost for the youth,” said Abdulghafur Abdi Tacho. “Hope has been instilled into other young stars who wish to contest for different positions.”

“You are our superhero, son of the soil,” echoed Lokho Guracha, while others hailed him as the right leader to “take the party to the next level.”

Baba Akraam, a fellow political activist based in the U.S also congratulated Wajera saying “Well deserved,my brother Dida Didah Wajera congratulations,we are confident that you will take the ruling party to the next level. Chairman ni waheed(one).”

Some reactions, however, reflect the high expectations awaiting the new chair. “Congratulations to him… Though the party is falling,” noted one supporter, in a candid expression of concern over the UDA’s current trajectory.

A New Chapter for Isiolo Politics

With his election, Dida Abkul Wajera is now firmly at the helm of Isiolo’s UDA operations. For the party, this is an opportunity to course-correct and reconnect.

For Dida, it is both a reward for years of activism and a daunting new chapter of responsibility.

As the political spotlight turns to Isiolo, one thing is clear—Dida “Deep State” Wajera has captured the imagination of a county yearning for responsive leadership and authentic representation.

His next moves may well define not just the party’s fortunes in Isiolo, but its broader narrative heading into 2027.
