•He Also Clarified That There was No Conflict Between Himself and the Governor

Isiolo County, Kenya| Burat Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Nicholas Lorot, has finally spoken out after surviving a shocking gun attack on March 26, 2025, urging the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite its investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.

This is Lorot’s first public statement since the brazen shooting, which left him hospitalized for weeks.

Lorot was shot three times by an unidentified gunman who fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Though he has made significant strides in his recovery, the MCA revealed that one bullet still remains lodged in his shoulder, and he is awaiting further surgery.

“I am thankful to be alive and recovering well,” Lorot stated. “But I urge the DCI to fast-track their investigations into this matter.” He emphasized.

“The people of Burat, and Isiolo County at large, deserve answers and justice. There are growing concerns, and it’s critical that these are addressed through transparent and timely action.” The Burat MCA explained.

Calls for Protection and Security Reforms

The incident has reignited national and regional conversations about the safety of elected officials, particularly those working in regions grappling with heightened insecurity.

Lorot called on the government to re-evaluate security measures for public servants, suggesting that MCAs either be assigned personal security officers or permitted to carry licensed firearms to defend themselves.

“It is unacceptable that leaders can be attacked so easily while serving their people,” Lorot said. “We need real conversations and policy action around the protection of county leaders, especially in high-risk areas.”

Clarifies Relationship with Governor, Focuses on Development Agenda

In the wake of speculation linking political rivalry to the attack, Lorot also addressed rumors of a rift with Isiolo Governor, affirming that their past disagreements have been resolved amicably.

“There is no conflict between myself and the Governor,” he clarified. “We are united by our common goal to serve the people of Isiolo. I remain fully committed to working with all stakeholders to bring development to Burat Ward.”

Lorot emphasized his focus on key development priorities, noting that he is actively pushing for the inclusion of critical projects—such as road infrastructure upgrades, improved access to clean water, and better-equipped dispensaries—in the county’s 2025/2026 financial budget.

“These are the issues that matter to our people. Our residents deserve functioning roads, clean water, and accessible healthcare. That is what I am fighting for every day,” he stated.

Demands Changes in Security Command

In addition to calling for justice in his personal case, Lorot voiced broader concerns about the security architecture in Isiolo County.

He specifically advocated for the restructuring of the local security command, citing the need to transfer officers who have served too long in the same jurisdiction.

“Stagnation in leadership breeds complacency. We need fresh eyes, renewed energy, and officers who are not compromised by long-standing local dynamics,” he argued.

An Ongoing Recovery, A Renewed Resolve

Despite the trauma and physical injuries he sustained, MCA Lorot’s return to public engagement marks a powerful statement of resilience and renewed commitment.

His message was clear: the attack may have momentarily slowed him, but it has not deterred his mission.

As investigations continue, all eyes remain on the DCI to provide answers—and justice—not only for Lorot but also for the safety and stability of Isiolo’s leadership.

The incident has also become a sobering reminder of the urgent need to address rising insecurity and ensure that those who serve the public do so without fear for their lives.
