•Senator Fatuma Dullo Has Decried Rising Insecurity in Isiolo County
•She Has Called for Urgent Government Intervention to Restore Order
•Shooting of an MCA in the Area Has Highlighted Worsening Security Crisis
Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo has voiced deep concerns over the escalating insecurity in Isiolo County following the shooting of Burat Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Nicholas Lorot.
Speaking during a Senate parliamentary session, Senator Dullo condemned the attack and reiterated her earlier calls for a comprehensive overhaul of the county’s security apparatus.
MCA Lorot was shot multiple times in Isiolo town’s Central Business District (CBD) at approximately 7:30 p.m., an area that is supposed to have a constant security presence.
The lawmaker miraculously survived the attack but remains hospitalized with bullets lodged in his shoulder.
The incident has heightened fears among residents and leaders alike, with many questioning the effectiveness of local law enforcement agencies.
During her Senate address, Senator Dullo criticized the slow response from the national government and security officials, noting that the rising lawlessness in Isiolo is spiraling out of control.
“Mr. Speaker, there is so much insecurity in Isiolo, and I hope that the Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security will move with speed to ensure the situation is contained. If our leaders are being targeted in broad daylight, in the heart of the CBD where security personnel are stationed full-time, then something is seriously wrong,” she stated.
The senator reminded the House that this was not the first time she had raised alarm over the state of security in the county.
She recalled previous appeals urging a complete restructuring of the security command in Isiolo, but her calls have so far gone unheeded.
The shooting of MCA Lorot is the latest in a string of violent incidents that have plagued the region in recent months.
Residents have reported increased cases of armed attacks, robberies, and inter-clan conflicts, leaving many fearful for their safety.
The failure of security agencies to act decisively has further fueled frustration among locals and leaders.
Senator Dullo’s remarks signal mounting pressure on the government to intervene swiftly and restore law and order in the county.
The attack on an elected leader has raised fears that criminal elements are operating with impunity, emboldened by weak security measures and a lack of accountability within law enforcement agencies.
Healthcare Crisis: Senator Dullo Condemns Delayed Salaries and Misuse of Funds
Beyond security concerns, Senator Fatuma Dullo also raised alarms over the deteriorating state of healthcare services in various counties.
She expressed dismay at the plight of health workers, many of whom are grappling with delayed salaries, unpaid allowances, and missing National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and National Social Security Fund (NSSF) contributions.
Senator Dullo accused county governments of diverting funds meant for healthcare, leading to stalled projects and worsening conditions in hospitals.
She urged the Senate to hold governors accountable for mismanagement, emphasizing that the continued neglect of health workers would have dire consequences for service delivery.
The senator’s call for transparency in county expenditures reflects growing concerns over financial mismanagement in devolved units.
Reports of underfunded hospitals, lack of essential drugs, and poor working conditions for medical personnel have become increasingly common, threatening the overall well-being of citizens.
As Isiolo grapples with insecurity and healthcare challenges, Senator Dullo’s outcry underscores the urgent need for government action to address these pressing issues.
Whether her appeals will translate into tangible reforms remains to be seen, but the senator’s persistent advocacy signals a growing demand for accountability and better governance in the region.
