Moscow and Washington Evaluating Outcomes of Extensive Discussions

The Kremlin has stated that it will not release details of the high-level discussions held between Russian and US officials in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Monday.

The talks, which spanned nearly 12 hours, were aimed at exploring potential measures to de-escalate the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed during a press briefing on Tuesday that both Moscow and Washington are currently assessing the outcomes of the negotiations, but the content of the discussions will remain confidential.

“The outcomes of the marathon Russian-American negotiations have been relayed to the respective capitals and are currently under analysis,” Peskov stated.

“These were technical talks, which involved an in-depth exploration of details, so naturally, the content of those discussions will not be made public.”

No Immediate Plans for Direct Putin-Trump Talks

Peskov further clarified that there are no plans for direct communication between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump following the latest diplomatic engagement.

Additionally, he ruled out the possibility of trilateral talks involving Ukraine at this stage, indicating that further interactions between Moscow and Washington would take place in due course.

The discussions in Riyadh were part of broader diplomatic efforts, with US officials also holding separate meetings with Ukrainian representatives.

Reports suggest that one of the key topics under consideration was the potential revival of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

Black Sea Grain Initiative: A Sticking Point

The Black Sea Grain Initiative, a UN- and Türkiye-brokered agreement designed to facilitate the safe export of Ukrainian grain via the Black Sea, was originally signed in 2022 but collapsed in July 2023.

Moscow withdrew from the deal, citing Ukraine’s alleged misuse of its terms and accusing Western nations of failing to uphold their commitments.

Russia had insisted that in exchange for allowing Ukrainian grain exports, the West would lift restrictions on the export of Russian fertilizers and foodstuffs—conditions Moscow argues were not honored.

Although details of the Riyadh talks remain undisclosed, speculation persists that the discussions addressed the possibility of reviving elements of the grain deal, among other geopolitical and economic concerns.

The recent meeting in Saudi Arabia marks a rare instance of direct engagement between Russian and American officials amid strained relations.
