•DG Lowasa, Partners Review Wezesha Vijana Programme’s Impact and Future Expansion

Isiolo, Kenya| In a collaborative effort to assess the progress and impact of youth empowerment initiatives, Isiolo Deputy Governor Dr. James Lowasa hosted representatives from Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Kenya and Safaricom Foundation for a review of the Wezesha Vijana Programme.

The meeting, held in Isiolo, provided a platform to reflect on the successes of the program’s first year while identifying areas for expansion and improvement.

Empowering Youth Through Skills Development

The Wezesha Vijana Programme, which aims to equip young people with practical skills for economic self-sufficiency, has successfully trained 100 beneficiaries in various vocational disciplines.

During the meeting, Dr. Lowasa underscored the transformative impact of the program, noting that it has provided young people in Isiolo with essential life skills necessary for securing employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in an increasingly competitive job market.

“The skills gained through the Wezesha Vijana Programme are invaluable and will greatly benefit these young individuals,” Dr. Lowasa remarked. “I firmly believe that this initiative has transformed their lives and made them competitive on a global scale.”

Calls for Expansion and Diversification

Despite the program’s notable achievements, Dr. Lowasa emphasized the need for broadening the scope of training to include more diverse skills that align with current labor market demands.

He also advocated for extending the initiative’s reach to additional wards within the county, ensuring that more young people can benefit from vocational training and mentorship opportunities.

Partnerships to Strengthen Youth Innovation

Representatives from CRS Kenya and Safaricom Foundation expressed their appreciation for the Isiolo County Government’s Department of Vocational Training, acknowledging its pivotal role in the program’s success.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the Wezesha Vijana Programme, with a particular focus on investing in the Isiolo Youth Innovation Centre.

This investment aims to provide youth with specialized training in digital skills and online employment opportunities, enabling them to participate in the global digital economy.

Commitment to Youth Development

As the Wezesha Vijana Programme moves forward, stakeholders remain committed to expanding access to vocational education, digital literacy, and economic empowerment initiatives.

The initiative’s continued growth is expected to play a crucial role in reducing youth unemployment and fostering sustainable development in Isiolo County.
