Marsabit, Kenya| A bodaboda rider, Abraham Arbe, was brutally attacked and fatally stabbed by unidentified assailants in Arobota, Jerime location, on the evening of Monday, March 10.

The attackers, who had posed as passengers, ambushed Arbe, stabbed him multiple times, and made away with his motorcycle before fleeing the scene.

The shocking murder has sent waves of fear across Marsabit town and Saku Constituency, where cases of violent crime have been on the rise.

Local authorities have launched an intense manhunt for the perpetrators as concerns mount over the deteriorating security situation in the area.

Police Step Up Security Measures

Following the incident, the Eastern Regional Police Commander visited Marsabit as part of Operation Ondoa Jangili, a government-led initiative aimed at cracking down on criminal elements in the region.

Addressing residents, the commander assured them of enhanced security measures to curb the escalating crime rate and restore law and order.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been taken to Marsabit County Referral Hospital morgue, where it awaits a postmortem examination as investigations continue.

Leaders Condemn the Killing, Call for Action

Marsabit Woman Representative, Naomi Waqo, strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “senseless act of violence that must not be tolerated.”

She called on security agencies to take immediate action in apprehending the culprits and reinforcing security to prevent further attacks.

“We have come a long way in restoring peace, and we must not allow criminal elements to derail our progress. I urge security agencies to move swiftly and ensure justice is served,” Waqo stated.

Her remarks come at a time when insecurity in Marsabit County remains a growing concern.

Community leaders and residents have repeatedly urged authorities to take urgent measures to protect lives and property amid fears of a resurgence in crime-related violence.

Growing Concern Over Rising Crime

Marsabit County has experienced intermittent insecurity, with banditry, intercommunal conflicts, and motorcycle thefts becoming more frequent.

Residents have expressed frustration over what they perceive as a slow response from security agencies in addressing these threats.

The killing of Abraham Arbe has further heightened anxiety, with bodaboda operators, a crucial part of the region’s transport system, calling for better protection against criminal elements who often target them.

As the manhunt for the killers intensifies, residents hope that swift police action and increased security measures will prevent further bloodshed and restore confidence in law enforcement.
