Kigali, Rwanda| President Paul Kagame has reassured Rwandan troops deployed on foreign missions that the country’s security remains robust, urging them to focus on their assignments without concern for the stability of their homeland.
The message, delivered by Rwanda Defense Force (RDF) spokesperson Brig. Gen. Ronald Rwivanga in an interview with IGIHE, comes at a time of heightened regional tensions involving Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
A Message of Confidence and Assurance
President Kagame’s remarks were directed at Rwandan forces serving in the Central African Republic (CAR), where they play a key role in maintaining security and stability.
According to Brig. Gen. Rwivanga, Rwandan troops in CAR have successfully secured their areas of operation, and local communities continue to appreciate their presence.
“The troops deployed in CAR should remain focused on their mission. They should not be distracted by concerns about Rwanda’s security because the country is safe and well-guarded,” Rwivanga stated.
He further emphasized that there are no immediate threats to Rwanda’s national security and that the RDF remains fully prepared to defend the country’s sovereignty.
Regional Tensions and Border Security
The reassurance follows ongoing tensions with neighboring Burundi and the DRC, which have been accused of harboring elements seeking to destabilize Rwanda.
Following the recent advance of the M23 rebel group in eastern DRC, the capture of Goma reportedly uncovered evidence suggesting involvement from Rwanda’s adversaries in efforts to undermine the nation’s stability.
However, Brig. Gen. Rwivanga affirmed that Rwanda’s borders are secure and that any security concerns related to the conflict in the region have been effectively addressed.
“We can assure the public that Rwanda is safe, and the borders are well-protected. The border-related concerns have been resolved. Since M23 took control of their positions, we have had no further issues along our border, meaning the country remains secure,” he stated.
A Call for Readiness and Commitment
Rwivanga reiterated that Rwandan forces remain vigilant and continue to fulfill their responsibilities both at home and abroad.
“Our troops are performing their duties as expected, safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and borders. Everything is proceeding as usual, and our message here is to assure the troops that Rwanda is safe,” he added.
As regional uncertainties persist, President Kagame’s message underscores Rwanda’s preparedness to maintain national security while continuing its commitments to international peacekeeping missions.
