Isiolo County Women Representative Mumina Bonaya has reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to girls’ education by spearheading a significant initiative aimed at easing transportation challenges for students.
In a heartfelt gesture aligned with the spirit of International Women’s Day, Bonaya facilitated the delivery of a school van to Isiolo Girls High School, a move she described as a step toward eliminating barriers to learning for young girls.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Bonaya emphasized the transformative power of education in shaping the future of young girls, particularly those who face obstacles such as long and unsafe journeys to school.
She noted that many students, especially girls in rural areas, are often forced to drop out due to the hardships associated with commuting to school, including financial constraints and security concerns.
“For many students, the journey to school is not just a physical one—it is a daily challenge that can determine whether they receive an education or not,” Bonaya stated.
“Long distances, unsafe routes, and financial struggles often force young girls to drop out, limiting their potential before they even have the chance to realize it.” She explained.
“By providing safe and reliable transportation, we are not just delivering a vehicle; we are delivering hope, opportunity, and a brighter future.” Mumina reiterated.
The event, which was attended by school administrators, students, and local leaders, was marked by expressions of gratitude from both teachers and students, who welcomed the new school van as a game-changer in improving access to education.
The provision of the vehicle is expected to significantly reduce absenteeism and ensure that more girls remain in school, reinforcing the broader national goal of achieving gender equality in education.
In addition to the school van donation, Bonaya extended support to the fasting Muslim community, demonstrating her commitment to social welfare and inclusivity.
Her engagement in both education and community support initiatives underscores her broader agenda of empowering women and girls through policy advocacy and direct action.
“As a political leader, I remain committed to championing policies and initiatives that uplift women and girls, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to succeed,” she affirmed.
Bonaya also used the occasion to call on stakeholders, including the government, private sector, and community members, to work together in breaking barriers that hinder girls from accessing quality education.
She reiterated that empowering young women through education is a strategic investment in the nation’s future.
“When we educate a girl, we empower a family, strengthen a community, and build a better nation,” she said.
“On this special day, I call on all of us to continue breaking barriers, challenging inequalities, and creating a world where every girl has the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive. Together, we can build a future where no girl is left behind.”
Her efforts align with the International Women’s Day theme, emphasizing the need for collective action to create a more inclusive and equitable society.
Through her leadership, Mumina Bonaya continues to be a vocal advocate for gender equality and educational empowerment, ensuring that girls in Isiolo and beyond have the opportunities they need to realize their full potential.
