•New Strategy Aims to Enhance Transparency, Governance, and Accountability
Kenya has taken a bold step in the fight against corruption with the launch of the Kenya Integrity Plan (KIP) 2023-2028, a comprehensive strategy designed to bolster ethical governance and transparency across public and private sectors.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in partnership with the Kenya Leadership Forum (KLIF), underscores the country’s commitment to upholding integrity at national and international levels.
Speaking during the launch, Attorney General Dorcas Oduor emphasized that the plan aligns with Kenya’s constitutional principles and global anti-corruption commitments.
She described KIP as a strategic blueprint that focuses on prevention, detection, enforcement, and civic engagement—key pillars essential in combating corruption and promoting ethical leadership.
“The Kenya Integrity Plan provides us with a strategic roadmap to reinforce the principles of good governance and address the challenges that have hindered our collective progress under the framework of the KLIF,” Oduor stated.
She further noted that the long-awaited launch reaffirms Kenya’s dedication to transparency and accountability, setting up clear mechanisms to strengthen institutional frameworks, enhance public service ethics, and cultivate a culture of integrity.
Legal and Policy Commitments to Fighting Corruption
The Office of the Attorney General, Oduor reiterated, plays a crucial role in the fight against corruption through coordinating mutual legal assistance in economic crimes, facilitating investigations and prosecutions, and ensuring asset recovery.
“As the Office of the AG and Department of Justice, we commit to sharing legal reforms, enforcing anti-corruption measures, and promoting a transparent legal system as enshrined in KIP and other policy documents under the national anti-corruption framework,” she affirmed.
EACC Chairperson, Dr. David Oginde, highlighted the significance of KIP in advancing Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
He underscored the need for collective responsibility in eliminating corruption, urging stakeholders to support KLIF as a platform for information-sharing and practical solutions in governance.
“Corruption is a complex issue that requires collaboration between government institutions, the private sector, and civil society,” he remarked.
Global Support for Kenya’s Anti-Corruption Drive
The launch of KIP has garnered strong international backing, with the European Union (EU) reaffirming its commitment to Kenya’s anti-corruption efforts.
EU Deputy Ambassador to Kenya, Ondrej Simek, emphasized the EU’s ongoing support in strengthening governance, legislative reforms, and institutional capacity building.
“Corruption undermines economic growth and public trust. The EU remains committed to supporting Kenya in strengthening governance through legislative reforms and institutional effectiveness,” Simek stated.
Similarly, Kwami Senanu, representing the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC), praised Kenya’s proactive approach, noting that the successful implementation of KIP will be instrumental in achieving the goals of AU Agenda 2063, Africa’s blueprint for socio-economic transformation.
“The launch of the Kenya Integrity Plan is a clear demonstration of Kenya’s resolution to decisively tackle corruption. Its successful implementation is crucial to achieving the African Union Agenda 2063,” he remarked.
A Call to Action for a Corruption-Free Kenya
The launch of KIP marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s anti-corruption journey.
With legal reforms, institutional strengthening, and civic engagement at its core, the plan is expected to reshape governance by reinforcing ethical leadership and accountability.
However, its success hinges on multi-sectoral collaboration, involving government agencies, the private sector, civil society, and the international community.
By aligning with Vision 2030, AU Agenda 2063, and global anti-corruption frameworks, Kenya is positioning itself as a leader in integrity-driven governance.
As stakeholders rally behind this initiative, the challenge remains in ensuring effective implementation, continuous monitoring, and sustained public trust in the fight against corruption.
