Team Kenya Receives Strong Backing as EALASCA Games Kick Off in Kampala

Kampala, Uganda| Team Kenya has received a significant boost in their quest for success at the 2025 East African Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) Games, currently underway in Kampala, Uganda.

Top county leaders have rallied behind the team, expressing confidence in their ability to perform well and uphold Kenya’s sporting reputation at the regional event.

Among the notable leaders offering their support are Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, and Nakuru Deputy Governor David Kones.

The leaders have encouraged the athletes to represent Kenya with pride and determination, underscoring the importance of sports in fostering regional unity and cultural exchange.

Governor Barasa, who is the outgoing patron of EALASCA, voiced his optimism about Kenya’s prospects in the competition.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony, he praised the country’s teams for their stellar performances at the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games, which earned them a place at the prestigious regional tournament.

His sentiments were echoed by Kampala City Lord Mayor Minsa Kabanda, the incoming EALASCA patron, who highlighted the event’s role in strengthening regional collaboration.

Mayor Kabanda emphasized the power of sports and cultural activities in bringing East African communities together.

Strong Representation from Nakuru and Other Counties

Nakuru County has fielded a formidable contingent of athletes and performers set to compete in various disciplines, including football, tug of war, volleyball, choir, and basketball.

The county’s participation reflects Kenya’s commitment to showcasing talent and promoting sportsmanship on the regional stage.

The tournament opened with a thrilling football match between host city Kampala and Kenya.

Team Kenya set the tone for the competition with a commanding 3-1 victory over Uganda, a result that energized both players and supporters.

The event will run until February 28, with various teams battling for supremacy in different sporting and cultural disciplines.

The opening ceremony saw the presence of key county officials, signaling strong institutional support for the team. Among those in attendance were:

  • Macharia Wathiai – Vice Chair, Sports Committee

Several Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) and sports leaders also joined the delegation, providing morale and encouragement to the athletes.
