Addis Ababa, Ethiopia| Ethiopia and Mauritius have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations through enhanced collaboration in key sectors, including trade, tourism, and aviation.
This was highlighted during a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the 38th African Union (AU) Summit, where Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, and the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, Mesfin Tassew, met with Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam.
Mauritius Lauds Ethiopian Airlines’ Achievements
During the meeting, Prime Minister Ramgoolam praised the remarkable success of Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest and most profitable airline.
He acknowledged the airline’s role in promoting connectivity and economic growth across the continent and expressed his government’s readiness to strengthen ties with Ethiopia in multiple areas, including political, socio-cultural, and economic cooperation.
Expanding Cooperation in Trade, Tourism, and Aviation
Ambassador Mesganu Arga reiterated Ethiopia’s strong commitment to enhancing its multifaceted relationship with Mauritius.
He emphasized that both nations share common interests and should work together to bolster trade relations, boost tourism exchanges, and expand aviation connectivity.
He also highlighted Ethiopia’s willingness to explore further areas of cooperation, particularly in continental and multilateral engagements.
Ethiopian Airlines Eyes Direct Flights to Mauritius
The CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, Mesfin Tassew, provided an overview of the airline’s continental operations, state-of-the-art maintenance facility, and world-class aviation training university.
He emphasized Ethiopian Airlines’ continued role as a pioneering Pan-African carrier and expressed interest in facilitating direct flights between Addis Ababa and Port Louis to strengthen business and tourism ties between the two nations.

The discussions mark a significant step forward in the growing relationship between Ethiopia and Mauritius, with both nations recognizing the mutual benefits of increased collaboration.
