In a resounding declaration, over 500 elders and leaders from Isiolo County’s Karayu sub-clan have issued a stern warning to Marsabit Governor Mohamed Ali and his allies, urging them to cease interference in Isiolo’s political affairs.
The elders, representing various wards across the county, emphasized that Isiolo is not a battleground for external political interests and called for respect for the county’s autonomy.
The elders accused Governor Ali of meddling in Isiolo’s politics, a move they claim has exacerbated divisions and heightened tensions among the county’s diverse communities.
They stressed that Isiolo has its own capable leaders who are well-equipped to address local issues and that no external intervention is necessary or welcome.
“We are not lacking in competent leaders who can manage our affairs. There is no leadership vacuum in Isiolo. We are deeply uncomfortable with the interference from a senior politician in Marsabit County.” Said an elder who was part of the delegation.
“Governor Ali should focus on addressing the serious crises and underdevelopment in his own county,” stated one of the elders during the gathering.
The sentiment expressed by the elders reflects a broader consensus among Isiolo residents, who believe that external political influences have historically destabilized the region rather than contributed to its growth.
Many view Governor Ali’s involvement in Isiolo’s politics as unwarranted and question his motives, particularly given the pressing challenges facing Marsabit, including insecurity, resource mismanagement, and stalled development projects.
The elders emphasized that Isiolo’s elected leaders are fully capable of steering the county’s governance and development.
They argued that any attempts to interfere with Isiolo’s political processes undermine the county’s autonomy and disregard the will of its people.
Political boundaries, they noted, exist for a reason and must be respected to maintain stability and foster progress.
“Isiolo is not a pawn in anyone’s political games. We have our own leaders, and we are capable of managing our affairs. External interference only breeds division and unrest,” added another elder.
The elders’ message comes at a time when Isiolo is striving to strengthen its internal cohesion and address its unique challenges.
They called on Governor Ali and his allies to redirect their efforts toward resolving the myriad issues plaguing Marsabit, rather than engaging in activities that could destabilize neighboring counties.
As the elders’ warning reverberates across the region, it underscores the importance of respecting political boundaries and allowing local leaders to govern without external interference.
The people of Isiolo have made it clear: they will not tolerate being used as pawns in external political maneuvers.
It remains to be seen whether Governor Ali and his associates will heed this call and focus their energies on addressing the pressing needs of Marsabit.
For now, the elders’ message is unequivocal: Isiolo’s politics are off-limits to outsiders, and its future will be shaped by its own people.
