Controversy Erupts Over Governor Guyo’s Comments on Ruto’s Visit
Former Isiolo North MP Charfana Guyo Mokku has strongly criticized Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo over remarks he made to President William Ruto during his development tour of Isiolo County last Friday.
The comments, which have sparked widespread debate, were seen as controversial and unbecoming of a county leader.
During the visit, Governor Guyo openly challenged President Ruto, stating that he should not return to Isiolo if he was not willing to spend a night there, as he had done in other northeastern counties, including Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa.
The statement, perceived by many as confrontational and undiplomatic, has drawn criticism from political leaders and local stakeholders.
Mokku, who holds the record for the longest tenure as Isiolo North MP, did not mince words in his condemnation of the governor’s remarks.
He described the statement as “shameful, unprotocol and uncivilized,” arguing that such language was unprecedented and unrepresentative of Isiolo County.
“It is a statement we have never heard before. We apologize because whoever said it, said it from this county. We are not party to it,” Mokku asserted.
The former legislator went a step further, issuing a formal apology to President Ruto on behalf of Isiolo residents.
He also commended the president for his restraint in not reacting to Governor Guyo’s remarks, emphasizing that the statement did not reflect the views of Isiolo people.
“We say sorry to the president. He never reacted. We are sorry. It is not our statement,” Mokku reiterated.
Political Fallout and Implications
Governor Guyo’s comments have ignited a political storm, with analysts interpreting them as an attempt to push for greater attention to Isiolo’s development needs.
However, critics argue that his approach lacked decorum and risked alienating the county from the national government.
The controversy comes at a time when President Ruto’s administration is making efforts to improve infrastructure and development in marginalized regions, including the northeastern counties.
Many believe that Governor Guyo’s confrontational tone could overshadow genuine concerns about Isiolo’s developmental challenges.
With political tensions brewing, it remains to be seen whether Governor Guyo will clarify or retract his statement.
Meanwhile, Mokku’s swift condemnation highlights the deep divisions within Isiolo’s political landscape, as leaders position themselves ahead of future political contests.
As the debate unfolds, Isiolo residents will be watching closely to see how both county and national leaders navigate the fallout from this incident.
