Isiolo, Kenya| President William Ruto concluded his extensive four-day development tour of the Northern Region with a strong commitment to infrastructure, housing, industrialization, and healthcare in Isiolo County.
The tour, which also covered Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa, underscored the government’s dedication to fostering economic growth and regional integration.
Road Infrastructure for Economic Expansion
A key highlight of the President’s visit was the launch of the 205-kilometre Isiolo-Kulamawe-Modogashe road upgrade to bitumen standards.
This crucial infrastructure project forms part of a broader strategy to link Isiolo and Mandera, enhancing trade and connectivity with neighboring Somalia and Ethiopia.
The road traverses five counties—Meru, Garissa, Isiolo, Wajir, and Mandera—and is expected to be a game-changer for commerce and logistics in the region.
By improving transport efficiency, the road will boost trade, drive economic growth, and promote integration within Northern Kenya and beyond.
In Garbatula, Isiolo County, President Ruto also officially launched the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project, which includes the Isiolo-Kulamawe and Kulamawe-Modogashe roads.
The project will further incorporate the Garbatula Town loop road, ensuring enhanced mobility and accessibility for local residents.
Supporting Farmers Through Industrialization
To strengthen Kenya’s agricultural sector, the government is constructing County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs) nationwide.
These facilities will provide farmers with access to cold storage, agro-processing, and value addition, minimizing post-harvest losses while boosting their earnings.
During his visit, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for the Isiolo County Aggregation and Industrial Park, emphasizing its role in driving economic transformation from the grassroots level.
This initiative aligns with the government’s “bottom-up” economic agenda, ensuring that local farmers and entrepreneurs benefit from modern industrial facilities.
Affordable Housing for Isiolo Residents
As part of the Affordable Housing Programme, the President inspected the ongoing 200-unit Isiolo Township Affordable Housing Project.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to increasing the number of units to meet the growing housing demand in the region.
The housing program aims to provide decent and affordable homes, eradicate informal settlements, and create employment opportunities in the construction sector.
Additionally, the increased demand for building materials is expected to drive sustainable industrial growth.
Advancing Healthcare Services
Recognizing the need for improved medical facilities, President Ruto assessed the progress of the Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital, including the Accident and Emergency Centre.
He assured residents that the government is committed to equipping the hospital with modern medical facilities and constructing hostels for medical students, ensuring better healthcare services and training opportunities.
A Vision for Northern Kenya’s Growth
President Ruto’s visit to Isiolo County reflects the government’s broader vision of economic growth, improved infrastructure, and enhanced social services.
Through strategic investments in roads, industry, housing, and healthcare, the administration is laying the foundation for a more connected, prosperous, and self-reliant Northern Kenya.
With these ambitious projects, Isiolo is poised to become a key commercial hub, benefiting not only local residents but also the wider region through improved trade, employment, and service delivery.
