Wave of Unexplained Abductions in Isiolo Sparks Fear as Another Man Disappears

Isiolo residents are gripped with fear following the sudden and unexplained disappearance of a middle-aged man, Sadam Buke, popularly known as “Boru Kude.”

Buke was reportedly picked up by unidentified individuals earlier today at around 4 PM near Acacia Hotel, on the outskirts of Isiolo town.

The incident adds to the growing list of mysterious abductions in Kenya, a troubling trend that has left families in distress and communities living in fear.

Despite desperate efforts by Buke’s family and friends to trace his whereabouts, no information has surfaced, heightening concerns about his safety and well-being.

Growing Cases of Enforced Disappearances

Buke’s disappearance comes at a time when Kenya is witnessing an alarming rise in cases of abductions, some of which involve state security agencies, while others remain shrouded in mystery.

The trend has been particularly worrying in northern Kenya and border regions, where security operations often lead to enforced disappearances.

Just this week, five chiefs from Mandera County were abducted by unknown individuals on the eve of President William Ruto’s development tour of the region. Their fate remains unknown, despite growing calls for their release.

The Mandera case sparked widespread condemnation and fears of increasing impunity in handling security matters.

In the same week, an abduction of another young man named ‘Nura‘ has also been reported in Biliqo, Isiolo County.

The abduction has been blamed on the security forces though they are yet to issue an official statement regarding the same.

The Kenyan security teams are carrying out a military operation dubbed ‘Ondoa Jangili’ to remove what they say are elements of Oromo Liberation Front(OLF) members who are allegedly engaging in ‘illegal activities’, allegations which the group have vehemently denied.

President Ruto’s Isiolo Tour Amid Rising Tensions

Buke’s disappearance comes at a critical time, just a day before President Ruto is scheduled to visit Isiolo as part of his regional development tour.

The timing of this latest abduction has sent chills across the region, with many questioning whether it is linked to heightened security activities ahead of the president’s visit.

Isiolo, a region known for security challenges, has witnessed a rise in disappearances, often linked to counterterrorism operations, inter-clan conflicts, or political tensions.

Many victims of such abductions are never found, while others resurface after days or weeks in detention without formal charges.

Mounting Pressure for Answers

Human rights activists, local leaders, and residents are now demanding urgent answers about Buke’s whereabouts.

The growing culture of impunity surrounding such disappearances has raised serious concerns about the rule of law and the safety of Kenyan citizens.

As President Ruto prepares to visit Isiolo, pressure is mounting on authorities to address the spate of abductions and reassure citizens about their security.

The people of Isiolo, like those in other affected regions, are calling for transparency, accountability, and urgent action to put an end to the disturbing trend of enforced disappearances.
